Hogares Expandidos (Expanded Homes) is a speculative research and design project that examines how urban planning defines our cities and human interactions. It demonstrates how social hierarchies and configurations often have an unconsidered root: urbanism. Infrastructures and urban landscapes support patriarchal and capitalist agendas that subconsciously condition societal behavior.

The investigation proposes a modular habitable unit system—focused towards the homeless and people with limited resources living under vulnerable conditions—as an open ended question. More than posing a solution, the project strives to incite a debate on how cities could be more inclusive.

Is it possible to democratize public space?
Does urban planning influence the way we live?
Is public space neutral?
What role have women played in defining our cities? How can we bring about new ways of interaction?
